Mind-Boggling Options In Car GPS Units |

|
Many GPS units are loaded with enough features to make smartphones look inadequate when they're used for GPS purposes. And, all those features can make choosing a GPS navigator a bit on the tricky side. Smartphones can be helpful as GPS navigators even while you're driving your vehicle, but depending on which model you buy, a dedicated GPS device can give you a lot more of the type of features that will reduce your frustration as well as save time and gas. A TomTom GPS should be a safe choice because TomTom is one of the top brands on today's GPS market. However, you'll still need to decide which particular TomTom unit to buy. Each TomTom GPS belongs to a particular family of devices, and the series numbers could lead to some confusion if you've never bought one of the TomTom GPS navigators before. A quick look at two of the most popular TomTom series of GPS devices could help you buy the right unit without spending too much.
The TomTom VIA Family
The most recent additions to TomTom's GPS units are the members of the TomTom VIA series. Because they'll give you additional features without costing a whole lot more, TomTom VIA GPS units should be considered before the older XL and XXL units, even if you see some good deals on those earlier models. For one thing, every TomTom VIA GPS has Advanced Lane Guidance that directs you to the highway lane you need in order to safely take your planned exit. They also have TomTom's Eco Route feature. This particular feature will plot the route that lets you reach your destination while using the least amount of fuel. Naturally, the IQ Routes feature is still available if your goal is reaching your destination as quickly as possible.
Some VIA models have 4.3-inch displays, while others have 5-inch displays. You'll be able to tell by simply looking at the second digit. Although it has a 4.3-inch display, the TomTom VIA 1505TM is a nice inexpensive device. It will give you access to lifetime map updates that ensure that your GPS is using the latest map content. You also get lifetime traffic updates so you won't encounter sudden traffic delays on your planned routes.
The TomTom GO Family
Although the TomTom GO series includes the company's premium GPS devices, it also includes less expensive units such as the TomTom GO 2435TM. If you're comparing this particular model with the TomTom VIA 1435TM you'll need to be careful because their specifications and features look very similar. The glass capacitive touchscreen used by the TomTom GO 2435TM is the main difference between those two units. The touchscreen is useful if you check the map often because it permits multi-touch gestures.
If you'd like to save some money and think you don't need the enhanced touchscreen of the 2435TM, consider TomTom's VIA 1435TM model. Both these models include voice recognition and can recognize plenty of commands. You could also get a TomTom GO model with LIVE features that give you real-time information such as current weather reports and fuel prices. GPS devices with those handy features will cost more than $250.
